We are releasing a record, as in a vinyl record, we must be mad.

No, we´re just passionate about something.

The first record features King L Man, with Earl 16 singing.

The song is called ¨Vultures´Bazaar¨

King L Man is juvenile in name, but not in manner.

It´s my molotov cocktail.

The flip-side has LV remixing ‘Abantu’ by The Mighty Zulu Nation.

Abantu is the title of their album that Aki Nawaz of Fun-da-mental produced in 2004.

The first record will be released end of next month, via Nation Records

We are preparing to release an album by Socos Dúo, they play chello and marimba

We hope to avoid the crevice of being pigeonholed, don´t like pigeons.

Grenouille are in the final stages of recording their album too.

We are amp´d.

More as it happens.

Grenouille

The man behind Grenouille, Javier Afonso is a creative force of gigantic proportions. I don’t say that lightly. He was the one that brought to reality the ‘Arando’ video for my King L Man project, which he did on a zero budget, but with 1,000,000€ worth of dedication and commitment. Music, photography, imagery, poetry, video, nothing seems to be beyond his grasp. The music is heart-felt and passionate, intriguing and moving.  It’s gotta be with a band consisting of Laura Escuela playing piano & celesta, Mónica Viñoly on violin and vocals, Juan Luis Pérez delicately touching the drums supporting the accordian, musical saw, guitar and voice of Javi.  Synchronized video images ranging from 1920’s era cartoons to the surreal and contemporary add layers of depth.  Their penultimate song at Keroxen last Thursday managed to stay on coarse despite rousing applause from the audience half way through the number.  It was a sight to behold.

King L Man – Arando video

Javi ‘Grenouille‘ Afonso hizo un video para el tema, Arando.
King L Man es el nombre de un proyecto mio.
Disfrutalo

The music contains some traditional Canarian folk music, and the main vocals is a farmer speaking to his animals as he ploughs. I’ve he been told the words are a metaphor for something to do with his boner, but I think somebody was just taking advantage of my lack of Spanish.

Javi Afonso made the video using tons of free software and loads of time, and I mean loads, the attention to detail is way beyond what I expected.  Much thanks Javi, you are a genius.

Ear Conditioning Transmission 12.01.10

Still in the mode to wish prosperity, justice, health, love to those that thoroughly deserve it for twentyten, dos mil dies, 2010.  We’ve got two years before than Mayan shit kicks off, so let’s do it like its 1999.

Powers that be do their very best to complete fuck this up for the majority of the worlds population, but within that majority are those you in turn do their best to fight the power, fight the amnesia, fight the those that should know better, fight the racists, suppress the anger to laugh at the ignorance, oppress the oppressor, see through the deceit and return fire with whatever materials are at their disposal.

The first new program of the year presents a cut from the new Scalper album, Flesh & Bones. My former collegue in Fun-da-mental is now based in Auckland, Aeoteroa / New Zealand.  If only the immigration authorities had known what was behind the smile of Nadeem Shafi, they might have thought twice about letting into the country.  You can find him by following the trail of bloodied remains.  Flesh & Bones will be released next month.

Mutamassik is holding her own with a track from last years Commo EP.  She’s got production skills that I am in search of.

I had no idea until last week that Oh No is the brother of Madlib.   For his latest project Dr. No’s Ethiopium, think Mulatu Astatke, the Ethiopiques, Mahmoud Ahmed on the the Beat Konducta tip, and your at the right place.

Maga Bo is currently a little bit north of here, dropping his sound grenades in Portugal, Germany and Holland.  In case you didn’t feel like showing up, his Outra Terra Mix tape is streamable at his site, which is reachable on by pinching his name at the beginning of this paragraph. It’s 100% Bo-productions with input from the phat likes of  Jahdan Blakkamoore (Brooklyn), BNegão (Rio de Janeiro), Poirier (Montreal), Filastine (Barcelona), Pacheko (Caracas), Fletcher (Cape Town), Dr. Das (London), Matona (Zanzibar), Abena Koomson (NYC), Teba (Cape Town), Xuman (Dakar), Speed Freaks (Rio de Janeiro) and  many more.

Poirier releases the Low Ceiling EP  next month on Ninja Tune,  his management have been kind enough to share it with us, so we are going with the suitably titled Marathon – you have to be physical fit for dis one.

Grenouille was called in to sprinkle some of his dust on King L Man’s Red Label No. 1.

And that’s the lot radio-wise for this week.  Tune into Sunhole Radio Tuesday at 22h00 (GMT) for the shot.

In case you do feel like showing up, I’ll be at Txola, La Laguna on Friday, and Saturday I’ll be doing it with Famille Bou Bess and maybe other guest vocalists at Cafe Quilombo in La Orotava.  This night is a benefit for an friend of FBB who was illegally placed in prison after being charged with piloting a boat with thirty Africans without papers through the gates of European paradise.  He needs some funds to fight his case, so if your up for helping out, it would be great.  It’s only three euros.

Gracias para tus orejas / Thanks for yer ears

The season of giving is upon us, so some of the selections that comprise today’s program are just that, gifts from others that I’m just passing on, such as the 10 years of Flying Lotus mixed by Gaslamp Killer; also in the pot, tracks from Obba Supa, Soundspecies featuring Ahu. The curtain comes down with Red Label No.1, from a forthcoming  EP from King L Man.

This edition of Ear Conditioning will be broadcast at Sunhole Radio tonight at 22h00, and next week Tuesday at Radio Norte, 89.4FM, 21h00.

Much thanks to the producers, musicians, DJ’s, commentators, singers, players, promoters and the public that have made 2009 what is was.

Also much thanks to Goyo/Sunhole; Leo at Radio Norte, Juan Fierro at Planet Radio  for giving me the opportunity to do it on the regular.

Can we have some more please for 2010?

I received some gorgeous music last week with the name of Obba Supa attatched to it. Technical Development runs the mic.  His 100% London accent brings honesty, knowledge and Lewis Parker to mind. The production of  Hey!Zeus holds plenty heritage within and forward thinking with jazz-brewed off-key beats and keys that hit your soft spot with no apologies. Rewind champion of the week.

As previously mentioned this week is the global launch of the latest output from Indigenous Resistance, and what a cast included.  See below for the list of all participants, some no longer with us, but on record yes.  I’ll be dropping Routes to Rootz at the Boreal Festival this coming Saturday after Tropico 28 and Karlovy Vary take the stage.

A good friend of mine introduced me to Intik, a rap group from Algeria.  While checking the cd booklet, I noticed the name of Imhotep in the production credits for one track.  He is/was, not sure, part of French rap legends I AM.  He released a solo album which was miles away from I AM.  The album, Blueprint, published in ’98 is one of my favourites when it comes to Maghreb and contemporary beats sharing the bath water.  I played this album to whoever I could, and seriously only one person was not impressed.   You be the judge…..
